Prescriptions

Repeat Prescription Requests

If you require a prescription for long term or established treatment, the request can be made in a number of ways:

We regret that we cannot take prescription requests on the main surgery line because it blocks incoming emergency calls.

Only medicines that have been authorised by one of the doctors can be issued as a repeat prescription. You should have a list of these which is generated by the computer and is attached to your prescription.

Please allow 2 working days notice for repeat prescriptions to be processed and signed by the doctor. If you wish for your prescription to be posted please enclose a stamped addressed envelope.

If you have any questions, please complete our Prescription Question form for details.

If you would like to save time and order all the medication you have on repeat at the same time rather than irregular times throughout the month please use our Prescription Synchronisation form.

Repeat Medication Delivery Service

We operate a weekly delivery service for patients who live in the villages around Newmarket that gets them straight to your door. Please ask our dispensing team for more details if you are interested.

Medication Reviews

We like to review all patients on long term medication every 6 to 12 months. You will be asked to make an appointment to see the doctor when you collect your prescription and a review is due.

This is so that we can ensure that you are still being given the best treatment for your condition and so that we can monitor the progress of the therapy and carry out appropriate tests such as blood pressure recordings or blood tests.

You can book an appropriate appointment by using our Medication Review form to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Dispensary

Patients who do not live in Newmarket or Burwell can collect their medicines from the dispensary at the surgery. We operate a weekly delivery service to certain of the outlying villages, ask at dispensary for more details.

Please allow the same amount of notice for repeat prescriptions requests. If a particular medicine is not in stock we can usually get it in for the following day.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

You can find out if you are entitled to free prescriptions by visiting www.nhs.uk/get-help-with-prescription-costs.
